December 2006 Archives
12/31/2006 It was a pipe dream, anyhow. The Pack doesn't deserve to make the playoffs... even though 8-8 is pretty good from where they were at a couple points this season. But it's not like the Giants and the Rams really deserve it that much more, so I was hopeful. But after the Giant's win at Washington, the Packer's playoff challenge got that much more difficult. The Pack, of course, must win tonight in Chicago. And the Rams must lose. That would make the Pack and the Giants tied for the last spot. The tie breaker is crazy. They didn't play each other, and their records against common opponents are equal. So then it would go down to the strength of the teams the Pack has beaten. In order to win that last tiebreaker... we need the following teams to win today: Arizona, Detroit, Miami, San Francisco, New Orleans, Cleveland and Seattle. So, basically this is the last packer game of the season. Enjoy it! |
12/26/2006 NBC has moved the Pack/Bears game to Sunday night totally wrecking my New Years Eve plans. It will now be 7:15pm on NBC. Details, here. The consolation is that NBC's High Def broadcast is pretty nice... And of course, NBC doesn't employ Bryant Dumbell as the play-by-play guy. |
| It's kinda confusing, so we'll try to sort out the playoff scenario. If I've got it wrong - please leave a comment. If the Pack goes to 8-8, they'd be tied for the last spot. Here's the tie scenario: >> Packers (obviously) MUST beat the Griese-lead Bears on Sunday. >> Redskins must beat the Giants on Saturday. >> Minnesota must beat the Rams on Sunday. |
12/21/2006 Milwaukee Fox TV 6 had cameras following Brittney and Deanna. They were taking a lot of photos. |
| Bubba's goaline fumble and TD-stopping penalty couldn't stop another awesome game by the defense. ESPN game summary here and box score here. So on to Soldier's Field. The Packers are 7-8. A win versus the Bears may actually get this mediocre team into the playoffs. The Bears have home field advantage already. so there's a pretty good chance that they'll be sitting some of their starters. Which means that Grossman may not play, or might play less and Griese would get more time. Interesting. |
12/19/2006 Thursday is tomorrow. Yikes. Game day is like 36 hours away. About the Viqueens... they are 6-8 after losing Sunday to the Jets, at home. Now things are so bad that they are starting Tarvaris Jackson at QB. Jackson was most recently the practice squad QB. Aaron Kampman's dreams just got wet. Meanwhile, in Cheeseland... Jason Wilde profiles McCarthy's Thursday game prep. And Brett's bi-weekly press conference yielded no significant news about his 2007 plans. But Michael Hunt thinks he can read Favre's mind. |
| NICENESS! From Packers.com... Kampman and Driver are going to the Pro Bowl. Driver leads the NFC in total yardage and has seven TDs this season. Kampman has 12.5 sacks. |

12/17/2006 Pack squeak out their 2nd home win and improve to 6-8. Jsonline: "An Ugly Victory". McCarthy's take? "All wins are good wins." Favre set the NFL career completion record while throwing 3 INTs and no TDs. ESPN's box score here. Some stats: One note from McCarthy's post game press conference: Tauscher will be back at practice this week. |
12/11/2006 Well it's definitely a new week. Everyone seems to be praising the defense. Especially cornerbacks Woodson and Harris. Harris chased down Frank Gore and saved a sure TD while Woodson made a diving save of Alex Smith TD toss in the end zone. Add those two saves up, and the score would be at least 30-30. Woodson and Harris kept San Fran's top receivers, Bryant and Battle, to only 2 catches and 50 yards the whole day. |
12/10/2006 Packers get big win over terrible San Francisco. Packers are now 5-8 and still have a very outside shot at a wild card slot. Here's the box score and the ESPN recap. Packers are 11-1 against San Francisco since 1995. 4 of our 5 wins have come on the road - second most in the NFL this season. McCarthy gets a win over his old team and old head coach. |
12/7/2006 It definitely raised a few eyebrows, last January, when the Packers hired Mike McCarthy. He went from offensive coordinator of the 4-12 San Francisco 49ers to head coach of America's Team. So it's not surprising that we're picking on McCarthy after the Pack lost their 8th game of the McCarthy regime. Especially when the runner up for the Packer's job, Sean Payton, has his Saints at 8-4. This week, McCarthy and his coaches have been under fire in the local press. Jason Wilde asked McCarthy if he'd be willing to fire his coaches during the season. "No, we're not changing coaches" was his answer. This week's game gives us a chance to size up the job that these guys have done for our beloved Pack. McCarthy's old team hosts the Pack this weekend. They are 5-7 and second in the NFC West. They've even got an outside shot at a wild card spot. They rank 26th overall in offense and 22nd defense. Their five wins have come against St. Louis, Oakland, Minnesota, Detroit and Seattle. Meanwhile the Packers are 4-8 and rank 12th in Offense and 29th in Defense with losses against NFC west teams St. Louis and Seattle. McCarthy and the Packers are a 4.5 point underdog on Sunday. |
| Will Favre be back next year? That was the big question during Brett's bi-weekly Wednesday press conference. Link to audio, here (Packers don't provide a transcript). Brett's answer: "But I don't know. I have no clue." JSonline's Tom Silverstein has the full story. |
12/3/2006 On Sundays during a Packer game, you can usually drive around Wisconsin and not see another car. That's not the case this year, I found out today. I turned off the TV with the Jets up 17-0 and left the house. So did a lot of other people. So I don't know what happened in the game, nor do I care to. I do know that Ahman Green went for 102 yards rushing and 38 receiving (he's on my fantasy team). Seems like McCarthy needs to run the ball more. Speaking of McCarthy... on to San Francisco, McCarthy's old team. They lost to New Orleans today and might be as bad as The Packers. |
12/1/2006 Noon game on CBS (Directv HD subscribers without superfan are super-screwed.) JSOnline preview, here. Injury update: NFL's injury report, here. Tauscher looks to be a no-go, again. David Martin didn't practice all week. But, Nick Collins probably will play. Nick Barnett has been practicing all week, so he should probably go but with a big cast on his hand. All the details from McCarthy's press conference. Meanwhile... Jets coach Eric Mangini psyched up his team by playing film of the old Cowboys/Packers ice bowl. Good luck. |
| The Jets are 6-5 and just drubbed the Texans, 26-11. But they put up terrible numbers. Look at these stats: Posted By: Rick Stratton at 12/1/2006 11:45:00 PM |
